Paving Installation Process

One good thing about pavers is that they are long-lasting and sturdy. They adapt to climatic and seasonal changes, and require little upkeep. Once installed, they combine to provide a sturdy and flexible interlocking paving system that does not crack easily.

However, in order to achieve all these benefits, proper professional installation needs to be done. At Landscaping Langley Ecoturf, we provide paver installation and paver repair services much better than other patio paver companies in Langley, BC.

Once you hire us to install your paver, we will start the installation process with…

The Base

When working on the base, the upper layer of dirt must first be excavated to provide room for the base material. Once all the dirt has been removed, a layer of compressed aggregate is then added to the excavated space followed by a layer of sand, hardscapes, and jointing material. Pavers are then laid on a compacted grainy aggregate that should be compacted tightly to prevent the pavers from moving or settling.

As a rule of thumb, foot traffic pathways need a base material of about 4-6”. On the other hand, a base material of 12” will be needed if you are installing pavers that you will eventually drive on.

Bedding Sand

Following the installation of the base, 1” of sand is added and smoothed out to allow for the installation of the paver edging. The bedding sand is essential as it guarantees good interlocking of the pavers and a smooth surface.

Polymeric Sand

Usually, pavers are installed on top of flat polymeric sand. Once the pavers are laid in place, the sand is then brushed and distributed equally into the seams between the paving stones using a compactor. Through the compacting process, you benefit by getting joints that are roughly 20% stronger than regular joints.

The good thing about Polymeric sand is that it secures the paving stones and keeps dirt and weeds off the seams. Unlike traditional sand, it is firm and stays put. It softens once wet and gets tighter when dry, making it more resistant to soil movement.

Over time, it is pretty common for the paving stones to come loose. A few might also show some cracks or other signs of wear and tear, which calls for repair. At Landscaping Langley Ecoturf, we also offer paver repair services. Therefore, if you live around Langley, BC, and need your broken pavers repaired or replaced, we are your go to landscaping team.
